eCard Online Registration for Adult City of Austin Residents

Adult residents of the City of Austin who do not already have an Austin Public Library Card are eligible to apply for a free eCard to obtain access to the Austin Public Library's Virtual Library.

The eCard will give you 24/7 access to the Virtual Library:

  • Explore and use the Library's electronic resources, including articles and databases
  • Download and stream eBooks, eAudiobooks, music, and movies to your device anytime, anywhere.

To request access to the Virtual Library, complete the eCard application and upload a picture of your valid photo ID and proof of your current residence address. Your application will be processed within 2-3 business days and if the application is approved you will receive an email with your eCard number and details about how to get started.

Please note that an eCard cannot be used to check out or place holds on physical materials.

Currently eCards, providing access only to the Virtual Library, are not available to non-residents or youth under 18.

Not sure if you're a resident? Click here for instructions on how to find out if your residence address lies within Austin's City Limits. If you are not an Austin resident, Non-Resident Library Cards providing full access to the Library's physical materials as well as the Virtual Library are available for $120 annually or $35 quarterly.
